Day 12, 13,
and 14 on this day I would bounce from Acadia to Schoodic Point and this to me
has some of the best and dramatic views that Maine has to offer.
First off if
you see black rocks in a coastal area do not step on them you will fall, injure
yourself, and or possibly die. So, please stop doing dumb $hit! With the fog
“water vapor” it makes those dark rocks as slick as wet soapy glass.
Here you
have the majestic boulder strewn coastline and with that you have the bevy of cedars,
spruce pines, and hemlock trees adorn her shorelines. This also makes
bush-wacken nearly impossible and I have tried it, and I don’t recommend
negative five stars!
On my first
day there it was a fishing day. I would be after Pollock and Mackerel. For me it’s the hunt and I would only be
using hardware here no fly rod. The shorelines are not conducive to fly fish
them. You can do it, but again it’s miserable.
I was using 2/0 treble hooks and de-barbed them on a ¾ oz Kastmaster chrome over blue. I fan cast the shoreline down at the waters edge north of the Bass Harbor head light station. Here out of the countless 100’s of yards of shoreline I covered was the only place I hooked fish. Now, I get it that the winds were out of the easterly direction and from my experience the winds out of the east the fish bite the least.
I was happy
to have this exact feeling because unlike some I still feel like a kid when I
fish. It all comes back to me and it’s my church. Fishing while the adventure might not be
great and or the actual catching might be zero as it’s been said before me “its
not the fish I am after.
The second
day of this side adventure was a photography day. I had reservations for
Cadillac Mountain to see the sunrise or rather watch mother nature have a
chaotic weather tantrum! The day started with me driving two hours one way to
get there because I was not going to spend over 200 dollars a night to stay
close to Bar Harbor!
I got in
line at 0430 and there was already one car. Then soon after that the entire
world showed up. We drove up the mountain and got to our parking spaces.
I was going
to make coffee up there, but soon realized I did not pack my coffee press
filters “dumb a$$”. The sky was beautiful and it had all the trappings of an
epic sunrise. The stratified colors of red, blue, pink, and yellow hues across
the horizon was epic.
Then I
noticed the winds picking up out of the east southeast. Then I noticed that the
fog from the ocean was going to pay us a visit. A visit o-no mother nature was
going to make sure she engulfed the region in fog.
I left all
my friends at the top of the mountain to head down to see if I could see a
break in the fog. The winds were blowing at an estimated 12 to 18 mph not
sustained but enough that there was a chance. I am glad I moved and did not
stay up there. The color contrast in the attached photos says it all enjoy.
On this day
I also would visit Schoodic Point Peninsula which is part of the Acadia NP. The following photos are from there.
