An Urban Adventure No 2.

Middle - Upper Cuyahoga River Kayak Access

In Ohio you need to make sure you plan really for anything. Northeast Ohio is most likely being over run by gravel rakers and I really prefer not to be a part of it and atop of that there has been a lot of rain in the last 24 hours. It is a catch and kill fishery and I get it, but it does not need to be the norm. I went to fish the Cuyahoga River. I found here in the middle section to have a lot of gradient and to be moving really fast in this section. This is also a great section to access the river but I must warn you there are a lot of strainers and fast current slots.

I went here armed with my custom feathercast switch rod by Bian Althouse. The rod would be initially loaded on a Reddington Rise 7/8 As seen below.

Its lined with Rio Skagit Max Short 375 grain and its attached to the Rio Grip Shooter 25# running line.  The reel has 50 yards of backing on it (its only 50 yards cause no warm water fish other than a toothy critter or carp will take me into my backing). When I spooled up the Skagit and the Grip Shooter I originally cut off the loops or each end. I realized this. I created a butt splice with a braided loop connector like this https://www.orvis.com/p/braided-line-leader-connectors/1051?item_code=10518035&adv=127748&cm_mmc=plas-_-FlyFishing-_-1051-_-127748&gclid=CjwKCAjw4pT1BRBUEiwAm5QuR6pbeOZL0-1YIh9qCS4xO7Y--LAHOYC2dFGQNUvVModvPO4NnSmkoBoCPEUQAvD_BwE See photo below in conjunction with the braided loop. I used two nail knots made with Gudebrod thread and applied it with Pliobond and it casts like a dream (I cut the frays off after the glue dried). See photo below.

I also have two other spools for this reel. The other reel has the Scientific Angler Mastery Anadro Fly Line. I have that in a 6 weight and looks like Scientific Angler got a clue and put on the back of at least of the Anadro line the grain weight window on the back of the box. This Anadro line is a great replacement for the the old Master Series Steelhead Taper. The Anadro line turns over indicators and lead with-out issue. My Third spool is lined with a 250 grain full sinking line for deep bodies of water.
I dont know if the other fly lines have followed suit and I dont take any claim for this but I made remarks to ppl in the industry for years that they are all doing it wrong  and confusing the masses.

Smooth Ambler "Contradiction" Bourbon

Well I found some yummy blended bourbon whiskey. Its 92 proof and its smooth I think for being this high in proof. It does not take your breath away when you fitst sip it, but
I do reccomend when you first try it dont eat with it at the same time so you can taste it better.

An Urban Adventure No. 1

Hello Steelhead Alley is up and pumping and its tribs I'm sure are over flowing with gravel rakers. I decided to do a little urban fishing. I saw on Google Earth a dam outlet and I knew there would be people there. The conditions where optimal and I saw the meat hunters there. One of them had there quarry on a stringer 1 hen white bass maybe ½ pound. I had no grabs because on my new set up I stupidly left my nail-knot to big of a diameter and it would get hung up on the guides. I will fix that, but I want to draw your attention to something.

I recently purchased the Scientific Angler Mastery series fly line Anadro / Nymph line in a 6wt and this has replaced the my ole faithful Steelhead Master Series line. This line is a spitting image of the old line and responds the same. On my custom Feathercast 6 wt switch rod it loads beautiful and roll casts like a dream.
