Before I talk about the trip, I need to give thanks and praise to friends that are in my life presently. In my life I have always had a small circle of friends, and they have always been near and dear to my heart. I have made some new ones, and they have been so kind to me.
This trip
turned into an epic one because of these same friends. They have helped me plan
and have given me some great advice. A few of them have gone above and beyond
and I want to say I greatly appreciate your generosity and your kindness.
Thank you
I will break
this trip up by the day because making anyone read a blog post that is 15 pages
long and containing nearly 4200 words well it makes me cringe!
Day 1
I traveled
to Maine and throughout the drive mother nature showed her beautiful
grandeur.
I took route
90 through Pennsylvania and nearly through the entire state of New York. I got
off 90 at Amsterdam New York. I missed this exit last time and I was so
determined not to allow it to happen again.
I then
traveled easterly along route 4. New York was showing little to no color.
That all
changed when I finally got into Vermont. I now see why people clamber to go see
the leaves there. I went through a little sleepy town called Woodstock and
their leaves had so much color on them I thought it was fake.
The colors
were so vibrant I thought they hired a company to paint all the leaves. Now I
really did not think this, but it looked like some AI stuff.
I continued
through New Hampshire, but it was not as vibrant at its neighbor.
Finally,
when I entered into Maine, I could smell the salt water calling my
name.
I drove into
the Motor Court that I stayed at last time I came to Maine.
I unpacked
my gear and made a grocery list. here is a tip if you want to save a bunch of
money cook as many meals as you can. The cost of eating out while on vacation
is staggering.
I finished
my grocery list and headed out.
I got back
from the store and decided to striper fish the evening tide.
What I could
not account for is the easterly blow that we had been getting on the
beaches.
The winds
were sustained at 10 to 15 mph. This also lends itself to large waves in the
majority of the coastal areas.
I thought
the best tool for this would be my egg beater. So, I grabbed it and a few 3/4
oz jigs and a few white paddle tail swim baits.
I had chosen
a leeward area that I thought would offer some shelter from the winds and
current surf conditions. Man, O man I could not have been more
wrong.
The surf was
still an issue, and the wind just laughed at my casting.
I lasted about 30 minutes and mother nature almost slapped me with a wave. It was time for me to call it a day.
I then took
this opportunity to go out and take some photos of an area I have never been
in. With rough surf it should turn this into an opportunity to get some good
photos. I chose to go and see the Portland Head Light lighthouse.
The weather
was blowing, and the sea was heaving a bit. This I thought would be a great mixture
of elements to get some decent photos.
