Day 4
Beachin-it
Today I went
with a long-time friend to fish along the beach in search of some stripers. The
tide we would elect to fish was the outgoing tide.
Here the
bait would be funneling out to sea and hopefully the fish, if any in the area
would key in on it.
I brought my
eggbeater, and my friend would bring his fly rod. We will cover the column from
top to bottom and near and far from the shoreline.
If stripers
were present, I thought we stood at a decent chance of hooking into one or two.
The wind
gusts were still problematic and still at a stiff 10 – 15 mpg. With a bug rod
and 400 grain full sinking line this is not an easy feat.
The
eggbeater that I was using was doing ok with making bombing casts and covering
the water. With all that we had going for us we did not hook into any stripers.
I saw
juvenile mackerel in a small bait ribbon along the shoreline. I saw this as a
huge plus. It was a sign I thought that predators might be in the area and
trying to chase and eat them.
After two
hours of casting and trying our hardest to redefine the meaning of insanity we
broke our rods down and decided to call it a day.
