With the overnight low being 33 degrees and with everyone else up at the Great Lakes it was time to swing for trout. Well, the flows are down and I had to turn to the Leisenring Lift method. Best described here http://gerardcox.blogspot.com/2018/05/just-what-is-leisenring-lift.html
With my custom 10’-6” light switch “Grain
window 175-375” I headed down to the Clearfork Creek Northeast of Columbus. I
wanted to swing light tips of 4 to 6 feet long, but the flows would not support
it.
I swapped out my 250 grain Skagit for my SA Steelhead master series 7wt taper. This floating line they don’t make any more! It really swings well, turns over lead, and bobbers well.
I arrived in
the upper stretches that does not have creek bottom weed growth until late May.
I put my bobber “a slotted ice fishing
float” up at the perfection loop on the leader. I then followed by having a 10
feet leader to include two BB split shot 12” up from my Gilled Nymph.
I covered
about 1 mile of different holding and feeding lies until I connected with a hold
over brown trout.
He or she
took it on the start of the Leisenring Lift technique.
He or she
took it right in the snout!
The high was
55 and blue bird skies “yuk” today and the other people started to show up and
it was time to go!
Be well all,
Sonder
