Shes finicky at times, but loving most of the time!

I returned to the Lake Erie tributary where I find my solace. She is and can be a finicky gal. She can be a prude at times and sometimes she gives it up.

Our fall fishery water levels over all for Ohio at least are at the dog days of summer flows. The weather to say the least has not conducive to a steelheaders fishing addiction. I would choose to fish in the upper reaches of the body of water. Her velocity was descent and would make swinging fly's good but challenging. I started out using a 9 foot section of T14 at 126 grains. This would prove to be to much weight. I would switch over to 8 foot of T14 and 112 grain. My Scott 7wt switch rod loaded with the freightliner 440 Skagit floating head castes like a wet dream. I was able to belt out casts at 35 to 50 feet with this set up.

I used 22" of 10 pound test Seaguar Carbon Pro. I would switch out flies and finally I found a highly irritated juvenile henny. I was I think getting takes but could not set the hook. I was using size 10 hook by Owner. I switched out the hook for size 2 owner hook and I would hook two fish and land one the hen. She hit the fly so hard she put it through the upper side of her mouth and there was no way she was unbuttoned.

I would hear 100 turkeys today and see about 50 of them. I would also see several river otter slides.  I saw mating pair of Bald Eagles. I did also see a coyote that was so big I thought it was a German Shepard. I also noticed and never seen this before the two crayfish locked into a fight to the death apparently. I also noticed several River Otter slides and tracks but did not see any.

I walked approximately 2.5 miles of river today and I would walk the road back it would take longer, but I was not walking the river back (it is hell when you are old lol). On a side note the river was teaming with bait fish. I hope you enjoy the photos
